off the cuff:

= yes for 32 bit grayscale

= yes for animation

= palettes are last century technology, not necessary anymore (enough 
bandwidth, cpu and memory) -- no need to extend that

= yes for backward compatibility

= no for sample ordering, just choose one and let apps do the conversion job

the list is probably a bit longer


but what I really would like to see is that we could make small 
additions "at a time" without the need for this 2.0 thinking

like web applications evolve, every week another feature ... but maybe 
I'm day-dreaming here ... on the other hand it is now 2015
