OK, multiple eXIf chunks are forbidden. By implication, it's also an error to have an eXIf chunk and an ImageMagick Exif-in-zTXt chunk in the same PNG file, but that's OK with me. Same goes for zxIf if that is present. I don't know about ImageMagick's stream of tEXt chunks with individual Exif attributes in them. I think that's OK as long as those are write-only. I'm not aware of any application presently reading them back in and using them, except maybe for the Orientation tag, which unfortunately doesn't have a PNG analog. I don't see any cases where multiple chunks would be very useful, and they would cause me headaches when implementing a metadata writer -- I would need to add special logic to avoid duplicating information when writing to a file containing multiple eXIf chunks. > I agree. unless there is > a) a clear body of existing images with multiple exifs, and > b) a clear description of how to interpret and modify them > then it seems like extra complexity that hurts interop and gives no benefit. > > -- > Chris Lilley > @svgeesus > Technical Director @ W3C > W3C Strategy Team, Core Web Design > W3C Architecture & Technology Team, Core Web & Media > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most > engaging tech sites, SlashDot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot > _______________________________________________ > png-mng-misc mailing list > [email protected] > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/png-mng-misc ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, SlashDot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot
