Not sure what you mean by firmware, but the sane sources you can find on 
gitlab, here you have the genesys:

IMHO they more or less contain a reverse engineered communication with 
Lide scanners depeding on a chipset used.

But first, make sure what version of sane are you using, check if the 
latest, then check the already reported issues or you can run something 
like

SANE_DEBUG_GENESYS="10" scanimage > out.pnm 2>genesys.log

and analyze the log.
