Do you know the steps needed to make this error to appear?

Select 2 adjacent nodes, and try 'add node'. It inserts new node to
midpoint (not very intelligent, but petter than nothing)

This is feature. You can always combine 2 paths into one - should
it be possible to select nodes from two different objects
as well?
