Hello!

It sound horribly similar to WinME bug I was experiencing. It
was caused by division by zero exception not handled, and I got
rid of it on WinME. but it seems, that something is still
problem on Win98SE :-|

It cannot read any file probably, because Win2000/XP builds have
been compiled with unicode versions of standard libraries, but
Win98 does not implement those.

This is because it cannot load icons.svg file :-(

You may try:
- Install Win9X version, remove icons.svg, check, whether it
still crashes on startup
- Install Win9X version, try different gtk+ installs (you can just
copy dll-s and subdirs from your gtk+ installation into
sodipodi program directory, so you do not have to install/
uninstall gtk+ constantly.

Best wishes,
