forgot to mention pstoedit - i also checked this tool. it's very handy - but: it lacks _free_ svg-support. as written an the webpage: svg-plugin without a valid key: "... will slightly distort the generated output.  Colors will be changed and the letter e will be replaced by $..."

any other suggestion about how to convert vector-graphics to svg using open-source tools?
