Really, who would be?  I asked myself, where did Gnome and KDE come from?  We
all know the story of the linux kernel.  But who was it that decided to make
KDE?  Where did they find all the people?  And, who did the searching?

I see that many have dreamed of a successor to X.  Many capable programmers.
This project is limited to a small inner circle, and some interested and
impatient questioners who cannot help it.  This is going nowhere unless we
find capable progammers with enough time to use.  What is the Y+ project
doing and where is it going?  Does it have everything that Y had during its
short life, and will it finally have everything that Y was supposed to have,
and more?

Are the decisions to go with Cairo and Waimea doing any good to Y+?  If Y+ is
good enough to replace Y, then forget about Y and let's direct our impatient
wait towards Y+.  Maybe we could help it, maybe we could even recruit some
capable programmers from previously failed X replacements to work on it.  Is
the GNU project or any corporate sponsor interested in replacing X?  Maybe
Redhat, maybe even IBM, or someone at the OSDL?

What we need is either _money_ that is interested in our goals, or someone
capable enough, with enough free time and communication skills, and the
dream, the ideological drive, to make linux a better desktop.

Many of us are here because we love the idea of getting rid of X and starting
afresh, and doing everything better.  But instead of seeing the birth of a
window system we love, we get hated by an inner circle that maybe loved the
idea as much as we do, but is now struggling with its death and the
disappointment that comes with it, the bad feelings heightened by our "is it
going anywhere yet?" always in the air, even if unstated.

I couldn't resist psychoanalyzing a little.  But this really looks like Y is
not going to be the brave new shiny windowing system we think it could be.
Either the "inner circle" is disappointed by the lack of progress and does
care, or they don't care, but won't tell it to us.

In the meantime, go all check Y+
