That's normal when the device disconnects.

Can you load the driver with:
	insmod visor debug=1
and then run:
	pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB1 -l
after pressing the sync button.

If that doesn't work, try /dev/ttyUSB0

Any interesting kernel debug logs after trying that would be
appreciated.
