in theory it shouldn't be that complicated, but if you don't want to loose
functionality (like infoprints, tray icons and settings propagation) you need to
replace some X mechanisms used in GPE.
But i would not recommend to do this, you do not gaim much but loose a good
abstraction layer that is well tested, documented and known to work. What is the
idea behing using DirectFB instead of X?
