We are now evaluating GTK on DirectFB.

As part of this, we are looking on how effort it takes to put an existing
GTK-X11 application (like GPE-APPMGR) on GTK-DirectFB. 

I have gone through GPE-APPMGR and what I find is that is was a teadious
process to put it on GTK-DirectFB. Mainly X related calls are used widely
in GPE-APPMGR (like Startup-nofification calls and some equivalent Gdk
calls, etc). Some places there are direct calls to Cairo also.

This issue is with GPE-APPMGR and libgpewidget also.
Am I correct and you have any other suggestions .... please let me know.

in theory it shouldn't be that complicated, but if you don't want to loose
functionality (like infoprints, tray icons and settings propagation) you
need to
replace some X mechanisms used in GPE.
But i would not recommend to do this, you do not gaim much but loose a good
abstraction layer that is well tested, documented and known to work. What is
the
idea behing using DirectFB instead of X?
