May I suggest a simple thing ...
The serial cable You are using may be ok, but the pins in the ipaq
connector may be "loose" - the h5000 series have that problem. Try ,
_gentlly_(not to "break" any more pins...), moving the ipaq in the
cradle while connected via serial (in Linux - something should come up
in the serial emulator while the ipaq is in the bootloader console ,
in Windows and with windows on ipaq - active sync should react ).

If this helps - mail me back - most preferably on the familiar mailing
list (and CC to me ) - I will post more instructions how to repair
it...
