Which iPAQ to choose?

Hello I'm new to the list so I'm sorry if this has been asked a zillion times before. I'm looking for an entry level ipaq to test out the two distributions but do not know which one to get. I can get a 3970 quite cheep, but wonder if it is too low end. (I can do without microphone and ir which seems to be missing) What I want to do is to - surf the web through my telephone (Nokia E50) and possibly through WLAN. - Connect to my home network through ssh - Connect to my nokia GPS unit through GPSdrive - Play some music and watch movies - Synchronize with google calendar (is it possible?) Any models that are bettered suited than the 3970?
