The h3900 line is the most likely to work well with familiar. It is
quite old though. I would consider getting a nokia 770 used if cost is
an issue, or a nokia n800 or n810 if it isn't. The sharp zaurus line is
also attractive and available. The nokia line does everything on your
list to some degree (although movies and google calendar syncing are
rough).

I consider both the hx4700 and the h5500 to be better handhelds
hardware-wise then the h3900. But they have their warts with familiar.

No. The iPAQ models are essentially the same. There are no known tweaks
for any geographically aligned market.
