My experience is that guis just don't do it right for all cards. Did you 
try the command line? If ifconfig shows the interface but no ip then 
take it down with ifdown and up again with ifup. Or if this does not 
help try more direct approach with iwconfig and ifconfig. If you get it 
working don't try to configure the card with the gui again or you are 
back to square one.
