RE: Starting from scratch, with a J720

First off Congratz on your Jornada :)

Userland:
Im not sure how much experience you got with Linux? If you are looking for a 
Wince replacement (easy gui, plug and play..) both familiar and JLime should 
fit your needs. 720 Degrees is a debian port, if you want more hardcore :). 
Armedslack is a port of slackware to the arm platform, which works nicely on 
the 7xx.

Please bare in mind that I run the jlime.com project so Im not totally 
objective.

>From my point of view the familiar project has more or less left the J7xx to 
its fate. Im not sure if jlime had anything to do with it or if they 
naturally focused more on their IPAQ users. I believe their 0.8.2 release 
was the last to support 7xx (please correct me if Im wrong).
We use the same development tool, So I guess you could say that we are more 
or less compatible.
The basic difference is that JLime focuses only on the HP Jornadas while 
familiar aims to support all (although I guess you could say they focus 
mainly on the big user groups).

Kernel:
What it all comes down to basicly, is the kernel. I know that familiar and 
720 degrees uses (or?) the 2.4 kernel currently.  I find the 2.6 kernel alot 
faster but it doesnt support as much (for example sound, suspend/resume). 
JLime has never and will never use the 2.4 kernel.
