Hi;

I need a little more info to help you;

 - what options did you configure xkbd with ?
   + did you build with --enable-xft ?

 - Do you have fonts installed ?
   + what does xlsfonts give you ( note you dont have to install this
   on target device you can run it remotely with -d arg )
   + does fc-list give you anything ?

 
AFaik, kdrive should build with fixed 'embedded' in it. Where did you
build kdrive from ?
