Seems the matchbox package has been built 'standalone' ( meaning its ugly and does not support themeing but has fewer deps ). With Debian being primarily for desktop systems, you very well likely dont want a standalone build. Standalone is really only for testing use where you want a quick easy to install wm on a new device or the device is *really* limited ( eg < 100Mhz ). > is this intentional? or is it perhaps related to matt's recent checkin > relating to only building a standalone build if explicitly requested? > > i'm just trying to figure out if i have to start building my own copies > of matchbox from here on... > If you want to try Matchbox out then by all means use the debs - they should be set up to have a nice 'balance' of compile time features. If you want to use MB more seriously ( eg on a handheld, kiosk etc ), then Id recommend building from source as you can then really tailor MB features and deps to whatever platform you're targetting. > (i haven't cc'ed Moray Allan, debian maintainer, on the assumption he's > on this list...) > I've contacted him via IRC and he's going to make some new 0.9 packages with this fixed :) Thanks for the heads up; -- Matthew -- -------------------------------------------------- ///` OpenedHand Ltd. 57 Great Brownings / London / SE21 7HP / UK Tel: +44 (0)208 676 4077 `X not on the desktop' - http://o-hand.com --------------------------------------------------
