It very well can be a hardware or kernel problem with VIA C3. I was hoping that someone else might have seen or experienced something similar and may have a remedy. I can ssh in, but when the system freezes, the NIC is locked too. I can't even ping. I run matchbox-session, which runs desktop, manager, and panel. I did not use any configure flag except for --enable-debug. I was hoping that matchbox would be writing something to syslog so at least I can see what it was doing just before lockup, but I learned that it only means vebose messages at start up.
