Thanks a lot. That together with a "modprobe usbnet" did it. I never would 
have guessed that it's in host mode and don't have the proper cable to test 
that. I guess I should put those commands in a bootscript or something.

But yes, maybe a small opie-sh-applet for switching modes might come in handy.
