You don't get the GPE/Open Embedded greeting screen and then the graphical environment without the GPE image, and the machine doesn't run without the kernel image, yes? But you have provided a valuable clue here. Note that I never said that the A/C power was plugged in when my attempts at suspend failed. In fact, it wasn't. The machine was on battery power each time. I just tried it with the machine on A/C and it works fine, suspending both via menu and via the power button. So the problem is on battery only. > > >>2.
