That could be handled by treating the devices with disks specially, 
perhaps by doing the touch with reduced and/or even user-settable 
frequency on those machines. Even if you did the touch every 15 minutes, 
it would be preferable to having the date/time set to the time in the 
increasing distant past when the system was built.
