local console executing /etc/profile

Hello all,

I (OZ3.5.4.1-alpha2 (opie) on borzoi) try to get the local console
(opie-console or embeddedkonsole, doesn't matter) to obey settings I
made in /etc/profile (path/aliases, that kind of stuff). sh/bash should
read that file upon startup, shouldn't they?

When I ssh into localhost or from outside, the settings are made, but
not when just starting the local console.

a .profile file in /home/root shows the same behavior.

Any ideas?
