No, it's e-image-core. Please note the difference in the names.
e-image-core has pretty much just rxvt. Marcin hasn't been putting up
e-image....I don't know for sure why. e-image has a bunch of GPE
programs and will populate the favorites menu (this takes a long time
on first boot).

As for the /home/root problem, could you try a GPE image and see if it
has the same problem? If so, this should probably be solved for both.
It seems this is more a problem only when users clear their /home (in
flash) and then don't re-create /home/root.
