new poodle having problems connecting with pc

Hello,

I just got a new Poodle( my first zaurus). It was running a openzaurus
2.4 kernel. I was able to connect it to my ubuntu and scp files to it.
I updated the os to OZ 3.5.4.2-rc2 (opie). Now i am unable to connect
via ssh from my machine.

when i connect the zaurus to the cradle, no usb device is detected in
dmesg. i run modprobe g_ether on zaurus and modprobe cdc_subset on my
machine after which usb0 is detected.
next i assign it a ip using
ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
route add -host 192.168.129.201 usb0

running ifconfig on the zaurus still does not show any usb0 device. so i tried
ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.201 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
on zaurus.
I still cant connect to ssh of zaurus. I need to  transfer files to my
cf card and i dont have a reader. any suggestions ?
