Oh! Sometimes I have the same problem with a C-1000

You can customize the keybindings in /etc/keylaunchrc

You can assign hardware keys and softkeys (below/right of the LCD
screen). For example, I assigned:

key=....F29:-:FBReader

to load FBreader clicking on the book icon. You can assign functions to
the spaces between icons, too. F28 is over/right of the book icon, F30
is below/left, etc.

There are some examples in the file, it is fairly easy for common keys,
and there are examples for uncommon keys.
