Originally, there was no gtk, either. So you had a choice of.. Xlibs, or 
Motif. The past is bygones.

No, you can choose to invest in a commercial license, if you are serious about 
commercial software. Otherwise, you can choose the free version.

No. You can choose NOT to use the software/code. Again, no one forces you to 
use anything.

If you plan on creating a serious business selling software, $200 is a great 
investment, and a very small percentage of any development costs. Even Qt 
desktop commercial licenses are a small percentage of development costs.

Trolltech does not use QPL code developed by the community in our products.

Nokia, on the other hand, is using community developed code for it's own 
profit (which is what LGPL is all about, and thats back to my original 
point). How does it feel working for free?
