ermm... WTF do you call me and my job!?! Trolltech hired me because they 
especially wanted to cooperate with Opie and with the Qtopia developer 
community! To Liaise!
Trolltech even has an opie-forum mailing list that never even gets used.

The difference between Qt and Qtopia is that Qt is an API toolkit _only_. 
Qtopia is software based on Qt, like KDE. We have very different customers. 

I was not around Trolltech in 2001, so I cannot speak for whatever they had 
told you, but I was involved with Opie by that time. Bygones.

geezz.. this is total and utter FUD. 
Maemo won't even run on a 176x240 screen! (nothing less than 800!), how can 
this be technically superior?! I can't imagine it running on a 5000d with 
it's 200 mHz processor. and it's not any more open than Qtopia is. There are 
proprietary parts in Maemo that I never hear anybody scream about.

All Symbian phones are different, requiring developers to release and maintain 
multiple binaries. How is this technically superior? This platform is far 
from open source, anyway. You'll not have a very good chance of porting this 
platform to a new device without licensing fees.
and, all these companies you speak of are HUGE! Trolltech has only recently 
grown its Qtopia engineers past double digits.

Users don't give a rats ass about which gui is technically superior, anyway.

Freedom comes in many forms. Of course you can do whatever you want.. but any 
new platform you create is _not_ Opie. Opie is a code fork of Qtopia. I would 
like it to remain compatible with Qtopia.
If you are designing a new platform, where is it? Is it being 
developed/designed completely in the open?

To me, it is a waste to NOT use Qtopia 4, and the work of all my fine Brisbane 
cohorts.
