I think the next release should be 'Opie II' (or, Opie 4), based on the soon 
to be GPL'd Qtopia 4.

That is a very typical response. You can always say, 'it works for me!' 

Linux and open source are mostly about being able to do it yourself. No one 
has ever stated Opie came with support. There is no business or company 
behind Opie selling or giving support for it.

We are all volunteers and do what we feel like doing. Support isn't usually 
one of the things engineers like to do. We cannot support devices we do not 
own.

Most support must come from the people that distribute our software. They have 
that responsibility to their users. They have to figure out if its a bug in 
the underlying system, or in Opie. (sometimes its difficult to figure out 
which) In turn, Opie devs have a responsibility to support the people that 
use our code - mainly the distributions.
