Touchscreen help

Hi
I have the universal and have Linux working on it Opie boots to the screen where you have to touch the screen but no further. I have tried

booting and exiting out of the boot sequence by pressing any key
then 
export QWS_MOUSE_PROTO="TPanel"
qpe -nodaemon -terminal 2

only to get a white screen

is there an initialisation script for the touchscreen that I could run before starting opie and how can I do this if so.
