The squealing is normally to do with the CPU clock of the E2 interfering
with things. A CPU clocking utility has been used to solve the problem
Dmitrys Dynaclock (palm powerups) may help but there are others time 
to google.

You could have a look for a new battery and see if it has a white socket
on the end of the battery wire. This would not need soldering if the socket
is present like on my tungsten T3. I got mine from a market seller on amazon.
