See Below: [this looks like it was for a Sony but I'm pretty sure you
can extrapolate...
PROCEDURE FOR DOING HARD RESET AND JUST INSTALLING DATEBK6
1. If possible, do a hotsync first so all your data is preserved on the
desktop
2. Make a copy of C:\PALM\{HotSyncUser name} to another folder on your hard
drive This is just a safety measure in case of inadvertent fault, or system
error. The full path might also be: C:\Program Files\Palm.... or C:\Program
Files\Sony.... depending upon where you installed the Palm Desktop
software.
{HotSyncUser name} is the folder whose name is based upon your HotSyncUser
name (so if your name was George, the path might be: C:\Palm\George\)
3. MOVE all files in C:\PALM\{HotSyncUser name}\BACKUP to another folder on
your hard drive. The Backup folder should now be empty (note: you can also
just rename the BACKUP folder to say... BACKUP-SAVE as that will have the
same effect).
4. Hard reset your device (Hold power button while poking reset hole. Keep
Power button held for several seconds then release it. You should now
see an
ERASE ALL? message. Confirm that you want to erase everything by
pressing UP
button (or top part of 5-way navigator button).
5. Set up DateBk6 for installation. To do this, double-click on DateBk6.prc
and DateBk6-resources.prc -- copies of which should be in that folder that
you moved all the backup files to. Or you can use the Palm Install tool to
install it. If you can't find it, just download a fresh copy of DateBk6
from
the Pimlico Website: http://www.PimlicoSoftware.com/datebk6.htm
6. Hotsync
you now have all the built-in databases restored and ONLY DateBk6. Launch
DateBk6 (and if registered, enter your registration code).
Perform whatever tests you need to assure yourself that DateBkt is now
working properly in this "clean" environment.
7. Restore the remaining third party applications. You can either do this
one by one by installing them out of the saved (or renamed) backup
directory
if you are still looking for an application that is causing a problem, OR
you can just re-install all of them at once with this "trick":
Install one file by double-clicking on it or using the Palm Install Tool.
Then COPY ALL the files that you saved in the saved/renamed folder into
this
folder:
C:\PALM\{HotSyncUser name}\INSTALL.
This works because installing one files sets a flag that tells the conduit
program to look in the install directory for a file to be installed. It
will
then install ALL files in that directory. But ONLY do that if you are 100%
sure that you want to install everything - if you are upgrading, there may
well be incompatible system files in that folder that you definitely do not
want to install!
