Android - Pimlico -> Can I use this and NEVER connect to telco?

I am a die hard Palm fan and was disappointed to see their great PDAs heading the way of the dodo bird.

I will not ever use a PDA that requires connection to the Internet nor register said software or device.

To date I've never had viruses or other such c**p and I never owned an anti-virus program.  It's just a matter of policy of how and what I use on my computer.  (and frankly, IE 6 and 7 freak me out)

To protect my data in the future, I must have a PDA that meets the above requirements.

Can Android be the solution?  Will it require a telco connection?  Will it require registration?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
