Pimlical does not use JavaScript, it uses Java (these are different
programming languages and environments). The update to Java 8 breaks the
access to the PALM Databases, because Java 8 drops support for the
JDBC-ODBC Bridge software which is used by Pimlical to access the MDB
databases that the Palm Desktop uses, and which Pimlical ALSO supports, but
ONLY for backwards compatibility.
A new version of Pimlical/Desktop is imminent which tests to see if the
preference SynchronizeWithPalmOS is set to FALSE. If False, the MDB
databases are no longer needed, and will be ignored by Pimlical which will
then use the same database formats that it uses on Android devices. That
change will then make PImlical/Desktop compatible with Java 8 as it will
then no longer attempt to maintain the MDB databases for backwards
compatiblity.
However, if the user still syncs with an old Palm handheld or uses
CompanionLink (that also accesses the MDB databases), then they will have
to stay on Java 7 so the MDB databases can still be read and written by
Pimlical/Desktop. That should not be a big issue for the near future, but
may become more of an issue as time goes on as security updates, etc. will
likely only be applied to Java 8.
