If you have one PC that is connected to the internet, whatever the method, even when there is no WiFi hotspot, your PC acting as an "access point" can "share" that connection via WiFi with your PDA. I looked only briefly, but it appears to me that if your notebook were connected via a 3G mobile network, you should be able to do the same. Of course the "free" offer is over, so unless you want to pay the point is moot.
