OK, well I actually use a combination of GTD and Stephen Covey's 7=20
Habits (hence I have icons for Roles and Goals).  I have a Palm T3 and=20
I use an outlining app called Bonsai (which is a fantastic app - try it=20
out from www.natara.com).


I'll give you a description of the icons, but first here's an=20
explanation of my GTD system:

The first layer of my outline is my Roles (eg personal, home, project=20
engineer, knowledge leader in my organisation, marketing...), the next=20
layer is Projects and subsequent layers are sub-projects and To-dos.=20
Big engineering projects get their own Bonsai outline.

The use of outlines lets me keep everything to do with a particular=20
project grouped together.  If you don't need to keep records, or have=20
another way of keeping notes, you could keep it simple and and just do=20
the next bit using Palm's built-in To-Do functions:

I assign each to-do a category based on its GTD context (!call, ?
waiting for, @home, @office, @errand, @site, @others - the symbols at=20
the front of each word are to organise them into a particular order, as=20
they come up alphabetically in the list).

Bonsai lets me assign a contact to each item.  It also has filters, so=20
I can use one filter to look at everything I have to talk with a=20
particular contact about, making sure that I don't forget to bring a=20
subject up when I'm on the phone to them.

I also use Bonsai filters to list my actions by category (ie all my "!
call" actions when I'm in my phone context, or all my @computer actions=20
when I've got the computer switched on).


Now to the icons. A lot of them are very stylised, so you'll have to=20
use your imagination! - I got the idea of objects broken up into blobs=20
from seeing something that looked like this phone icon, so I tried to=20
make up a consistent set by converting pictures into similar groups=20
of 'blobs'.  Anyway, they are:
!call (a phone),=20
write (a pencil),=20
read (an open book),=20
review/read (a magnifying glass),=20
waiting for (either the egg timer or the clock),=20
@computer,=20
@errand (the running person or the car),=20
@home,=20
@meeting (two people shaking hands),=20
@office (2 tower blocks, would you believe?),=20
@online (2 computers),=20
@factory (the cyan blobs are a chimney and factory roofline... sort=20
of),=20
then a couple of water industry ones - an empty pipe and a discharging=20
pipe,
@site (green, rolling hills - honestly),
more water ones (tap switched off then on)
'R' or yinyang for Roles,
'G' or target for Goals,
Someday (dreaming cloud),
Contractual Instruction (fist banging the table, or someone putting=20
their foot down),
Enquiry (pound sign & question mark),
Pending (arrow to the preious item and a question mark),
A table (can't remember what this is for... maybe another meeting=20
symbol),
Groups of different colours,
Engineering disciplines:
brick (civil engineer),
spanner (mechanical eng),
lightning (electrical eng),
test tube (chemical / process eng),
shark (I won't say who or what this is to represent),
control computer (controls engineer),
big cross and tick (for whatever you want them to mean),
stop sign (whatever purpose - maybe tasks which are superseded without=20
being completed?),
A few letters in circles (eg to represent project names).

Told you that you'd need a little imagination - now you can see the=20
weird directions my mind wanders when I'm doodling icons on a long=20
train journey.  Anyway, hope some of them are of use to you.  Good luck=20
