Descrambling TX

Hi - this isn't completely pEdit/pToolSet unrelated.

I had been happily using pEdit and the TX for some time, while I had 
forgotten that Palm had my Universal Wireless Keyboard since May. 
(Apparently, it got lost in the shuffle when they split off Canadian 
support from US support.)

I got the keyboard back around the beginning of the month, but once I 
began using it (with the 1.13 driver, which had been installed this 
whole time) the Palm and pEdit have developed pretty annoying stability 
/ data retention troubles.

I've done a variety of reboot and reinstallation things, and have 
searched for "best practices" for restoring, but I have ended up with 
something of a Gordian knot of tidbits - can any of you folks offer some 
suggestions on an organized approach to straightening things out?

Here are symptoms to solve / questions related:

= began w/ error msgs that there was insufficient memory to save an 
edited p32 memo, when the device was at about 50%.
= Palm has gone into reboot cycle (fixed with hard reset)
= Preferences have been reloaded backup reinstalled (maybe reinstalled 
corrupted prefs that caused it?)
= Memo32DB reinstalled, but some memos (longer) corrupted
= Passwords for several registered apps disappeared after hard reset 
(expected), but seem to be intermittently vanishing.

= I have pEdit and pToolset 8.12 installed, but never did 8.13.  Now 
Paul's site is in confusion (condolensces, Paul) and I'm getting the 
"this pEdit expired on Jan XX 2009" message.  (If I didn't know Paul's 
tendencies toward error msgs, this might cast serious doubt on OS 
stability for tracking date and time!)  I thought reinstalling from 
scratch might help?

= Blazer and VersaMail (are there other favourite mail 
clients/browsers?) are workhorses, but can suffer crashes and data loss.

I suspect that there is some corruption somewhere, and need to sort out 
the memory / file allocation.  I am waiting for a key for dbfixit 
(Pimlicosoftware), which I understand can be a helpful tool, but I'd 
really like to know what the root cause of the problem is, get the Palm 
back to stable, and be able to use pEdit with the keyboard - the whole 
point of the exercise!

I know nobody has time to do a complete analysis, nor all the info on 
installed software, nor all the relationships between various apps, but 
a little advice would go a long way.
