The OmniGroup does provide the SDK with full documentation of the file format. <http://www.omnigroup.com/ftp/pub/software/MacOSX/Extras/OmniOutliner/OmniOutlinerSDK.zip> Note that the documentation is itself an OO document. I could convert it to something else, if needed. Otherwise, the best contact channel is probably omnioutliner-sc6jspJ1wlAu+VYG3/[email protected] I could check on the omnioutliner-users mailing list too. Sample documents are also available for download. > I will store per-record attic information in a hidden > column, the issue is data for the whole project. > > Any ideas welcome. It might be possible to use Spotlight to store extra information within a file's metadata, but that might be too specific to Mac OS X unless being very careful about file transmission. Otherwise, perhaps specific entries within the outline might be the best approach. > 2) Is there a version of Omni Outliner for Linux or Windows? > It would like to be able to run it myself so I can get > things working more quickly. There are no versions for operating systems other than Mac OS X. Due to the heavy use of Cocoa, running OO on other systems would pose quite a challenge. GNUstep probably isn't advanced enough to provide the required capabilities for OmniGroup to even attempt a port. They specifically mention the lack of PalmOS support at <http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnioutliner/support/>, so once this whole XML effort works, I'm sure they would jump on the opportunity to point users toward a free Palm utility for outline access!
