I am the current maintainer, but I have been very busy at work.

Current plans are:

* Develop a conduit that will go from Progect to a simple XML format. 
Preferably with plugins that will read/write the format of a tool you 
would want to use on the desktop. A great deal of the code to do this has 
already been written, but it is not a conduit yet.

This will allow people to replace PDesk with something they like better. 
It will also allow Progect to be extended with plugins in the future.

The current conduit also tends to be unstable (but only sometimes and for 
some people - but enough to really frustrate me). This will solve that 
problem once and for all.

Develop a replacement for PDesk, I am currently thinking about using like 
XULRunner (which is the platform that Mozilla/Thunderbird is built on).
I have code already written in Python to replace PDesk, but it may be 
better to use XULRunner.


Rewrite Progect to use plugins, and remove ANY crashes from the start of 
development (by using a robotic tester). Progect rarely crashes in 
general, but it does have problems for some people very infrequently.

A bigger reason is to support different screen sizes with a properly 
written tree control. It is too hard to maintain the current code, and 
therefore I haven't added any features in quite a while while I try to get 
other things into place.


Development will be slow for a while yet, any programming help is always 
appreciated.

There are others, but I don't think any of them really can replace what 
Progect is. Progect really is perfect for the niche it fills, and while it 
is arrogant to say it, I don't think there is really any competition for 
what Progect is really good at.

That said, Progect is trying to fill a small niche and for what YOU need, 
the other products may be better or worse, you would have to check. I'm 
sure that others on this list can explain what they like about some of the 
other products.

I don't make significant use any of them, so I really cannot give an 
opinion at all.
