You probably already tried all these, but here are some things I definitely
do often that could hypothetically affect ordering:

* move appointments around in outlook, sync, then open datebk6 which resorts
on startup (are these 2 sorts - outlook and palm - the same? could they
interfere with each other?)
* create repeating events and then mark off event instances as they occur -
iirc, this creates a new event to replace the instance and changes the start
date for the repeat event to the next occurrence (or something like that)
* create a repeating event, mark off occurrences as above, but then change
the start date of the whole repeat event to some previous date
* move events around in DateBk6 and then sync twice (to ensure there are no
hotsync messages, warnings, etc.)
* move events around and/or create new ones in DateBk6 and in Outlook (not
the same events, though!) and then sync

Are event records sorted by id, date, some kind of special sequencing field,
randomly?
Is it possible to change the sort criteria itself (I mean for storage, not
for queries)?
Can a sync affect the sort order?
