	Well, thats pretty darned odd!

	Try renaming your Shadow data directory (the one containing the 
xml files) or otherwise 'hiding it' (moving it, deleting it, etc.) Then 
see if the desktop is okay .. could be theres some really alien looking 
filename (really long, or full of nasty characters or something?) that is 
killing it.

	Perhaps make a directory listing and let us know?
