Oooo.  Ouch.  No, that's not what "file link" does.

(Most of this is from memory since I don't use SP nearly as much as I
used to)

File link simply lets you jump from list to list.  It's not record
specific, it just opens the list it points to when you follow the link.

The desktop will search across all lists, but not the HH version (iirc).

I suppose you might link all your (appropriate) lists to a single
list, then jump to each in turn and invoke the same filter on each
one.  Not nearly as automatic, but at least you avoid going out to the
file menu every time.

Oh, and one more thing.  I have an entry at the top of my "child"
lists pointing back to its parent (called, you guessed it, "Parent").
 This is not done automatically when create a "file link", but is
pretty simple to add to each list as you setup a link in the first
place (and of course, test it).  Especially, when linking to several
files, you can copy that "Parent" record to the global cut/paste
buffer, then just paste it in to each "child" list as you go.

Just so you know, there is only (emergency) repair going on as far as
maintenance for this app.  The author has a day job, and needed to
scale back efforts.

This particular feature has been requested, but it's doubtful it will
be implemented anytime soon.  Both because of the above, and the fact
that Jeff resisted doing it in the first place due to the *long* wait
times required to search all lists on the handheld (again, iirc).
