I picked up a cheap card reader for $20.00. I have a couple of 1.0 GB SDs
that I keep different collections of music files on. I usually listen to the
music files on my palm TT, but sometimes I like to listen to them on my work
PCs which do not have SD ports. My home PC does. I just put the SD card in
the reader and then plug the reader into a USB port on my work PC and the
computer recognizes the USB reader and card as a driver. Then I can copy
files to and from the card just like I was doing so with any other drive on
the computer.

I also think that if you can manage to move files with HotSync, that data
flows much slower than with a card reader.
