G'Day
Having ridden a unicycle for minutes at a time, you have my admiration
for being able spending this much time on the infernal machine. And my
pity for whatever dreadful mental disorder makes you _want_ to! 8-)}
I think the BT GPSr + Palm is the wrong solution to the problem of
tracking your journey. The Palm just isn't designed to be permanently on
for that long, especially with Bluetooth turned on.
Consider buying a cheap old monochrome screen GPS from eBay and carry a
couple of spare batteries (usually AAs), buying more as you go from
wherever you stop along the way. They're designed to run for 8 hours at
a time on those cells and you don't need to carry a recharger.
If you get one one with an SD card slot (like a Magellan Meridian), you
can save your tracklogs regularly, or you could get a cable to your Palm
to download the tracks onto that.
By all means take the Palm as a book to read and a place to write your
journal and even to use the maps if you're lost, but sometimes a general
purpose device just isn't the best choice for a specialised task.
(Buy a cheap GPSr, though, so you can keep saving up to buy another
wheel for your cycle!)
Rgds,
Ian.
