Re: Can't sync Palm after adding HP Photo printer 7280

Fortunately, I have 2 GB of RAM and a 2 GB hard drive so I am not memory lacking. However, when I try to sync my PDA, it gets hung up on the first sync 'circle' and never proceeds beyond that. Thanks for responding but I'm still stuck in never-sync land!

Your response to his question on 'crapware' is neither friendly nor helpful, but
alas, I fear arguing with you is pointless.

512Mb of RAM is very low, under it is certainly not considered to be what they
expect you to have. That being said - you are correct that a less consumptive
system should be in place for drivers. I fully agree that the HP software
should give the option for a base-bones just drivers install for smaller systems
as well as people who just don't use the extra features.

The applications are not badly behaved, they are coded very well most of the
time. The quick-start applications I agree are not needed most of the time, but
this doesn't mean they are poorly written. Right or wrong, it is simply a
matter of memory, a system with very low RAM has this issue, others do not.
This is getting off topic though, and has nothing to do with the question
originally posed.

You're missing my point; those programs are installed - and often running on
startup - whether you need them or not.

One of my "ministries" is speeding up slow-running computers; nearly every PC
that I have worked on has unnecessary printer software running on startup (along
with Adobe Reader, Quicktime and several other badly-behaved applications).
Sometimes I find software for printers they got rid of years ago!

Rarely-used functions have no business running on startup, particularly as they
can be run as needed. Running XP in <512MB with a system tray that takes up
half the taskbar is a recipe for a slow-booting and slow-running machine.
