DBI perl package or some hints on compiling DBI on Z

Anyone have any links to a DBI Perl package or hints
on compiling DBI on the Z... having a bear of time
with it.  I haven't worked with C much, so I'm a
little clueless on proper configuration of the
Makefile.  GCC seems to be working fine, it dumps when
it hits ar (which seems to work much better after I
installed a newer busybox... wow can't believe they'd
put that in a rom wrong) for being able to access
DBI.a (which doesn't exist).
