Well, I don't know about you guys, but I feel a lot more confortable typing
in Dvorak. But, as I told in an old e-mail to this list, I can type
perfectly in both layouts this days... at the university, I type Qwerty...
using my mothers computer too... but, with my computer, I type Dvorak all
the time, and It feels great for me (I type a lot in english, but most of
the time, I type in Brazilian Portuguese, since i'm from Brazil, and it's
still great... Brazil even has a proper Keyboard Layout based on Dvorak for
Portuguese, but that's not the answer to our problems, we all know
alternative layouts can't get enough fame)... I'm sure, knowing that Mr.
Dvorak didn't and couldn't think about special split keyboards and etc,
makes me wonder about the need to think about the new keyboard that (OH GOD,
PLEASE) one day will make people realize this thing we're typing in is
ridiculous, because I feel that is OUR job now, not Dvorak's... He made his
part, the world mostly ignored it, we don't. Maybe a genious kid soon will
think about a great gadget none of us ever thought before, and that thing
will hit the stores all around the world, but OUR job here is not to create
the perfect keyboard, but to discuss, to allow the human mind of the future
to access our thoughts, our feelings about modern keyboards mistakes. If we
just ignore it all, if we stop typing in Dvorak because it can't be famous
enough or because it isn't perfet, if we start to use normal keyboards
because all alternative keyboards are a fail, will be much harder for a mind
like this of our new "keyboard prophet" to think about his creation, and
much more for humans to check if it works. We are making a silent
revolution, because we are giving humanity the tools to judge new things on
the future, and it involves something that people don't give enough value
now, but using computers and gadgets is growing in light speed, and soon the
problems we all know will be part of the life of everyone in the world and
they will know about our efforts. Sounds like poetry, I know, but with
"lost"(not) causes, like ours, only passion and devotion can make things
evolve.
Im not criticizing you Steven, just adding my feelings.
