EDS files stored on devices

Hi, is there a standard for storing EDS files in the device itself? I thought about using index 61000-62000 with subindices to store the ascii version of the EDS file. We have a lot of changes in our devices and have a hard time keeping up with the EDS files, that are stored in the PC based user GUI. it would be easier if the GUI could just load them out of the the device itself. Just wonder if someone already did this, and what methods they used.
