Is there an easy way, in CL, to find out if there are other jobs with a known jobname active or scheduled?

Exactly what it says on the tin. I've got a CL program that submits jobs 
under a given jobname. And I'm finding that somehow, multiple copies of 
that job are running simultaneously. Is there an easy way that the 
program can find out how many of the job it wants to submit are already 
either running or waiting to run?
