Hauppauge problem

I have a "Hauppauge Nova-S-Plus DVB-S" that I have been using for years
as just a remote. With the latest 4.16.x kernel it has stopped working.
I have gone through the configuration guide but I haven't gotten very
far as a simple "cat /dev/input/event13" returns nothing (even with
digging out the original remote).

I am running gentoo, lirc 0.10.1 and kernel 4.16.8. Let me know if you
