I never said that it did not work. One of the possibilities is to use 
the current upstream Lirc, AFAIK it can cope with the IrDroid with FW 
2.0. BTW, what version do you have? (IrScrutinizer displays it, as does 
Lirc using higher logging levels).

"commercially available" but requires both soldering and purchase of 
some components your local dealer does not stock...
